I believe it's an ADA thing. Having the stop announcements automated
means one less thing for the Operator to do; and most of the PA systems
on the busses are worthless (especially on the 1400-1900 series busses.)

Frankly, I'm surprised it's taken TriMet THIS LONG to do it! Cherriots
is 100% ASA, and Cherriots' financial situation is pathetic. However,
standing at Courthouse Square (Salem's downtown transit "mall" can be
nerve-wracking when all of the busses are on layover, since Salem times
its busses to arrive/depart around the same time downtown, with a dozen
busses announcing "Line XXX to XXX". Over, and over, and over.
